Spiral Classifier
Spiral Classifier
A Spiral Classifier is an essential piece of equipment in mineral processing, mining, and ore beneficiation plants. It is used for classifying and separating fine particles from coarse ones, ensuring proper particle size distribution before further processing.

Advantages of a Spiral Classifier
- Accurate Particle Separation – Efficiently separates fine and coarse materials.
- Energy-Efficient – Works on gravity and water flow, requiring minimal power.
- Adjustable Inclination & Speed – Can be customized based on material properties.
- Low Maintenance – Fewer moving parts result in longer operational life.
- Supports Various Applications – Used in ore beneficiation, sand washing, and grinding circuits.
- Handles Large Capacities – Suitable for large-scale mineral processing operations.
Applications of a Spiral Classifier
🔹 Mining & Mineral Processing
- Used in gold, copper, iron, and coal processing plants.
- Separates fine ore particles before flotation, magnetic separation, or leaching.
🔹 Sand & Gravel Industry
- Helps remove impurities and classify sand grains in construction and glass manufacturing.
🔹 Cement & Chemical Processing
- Separates fine materials from cement slurry and chemical mixtures.
🔹 Ore Beneficiation Plants
- Enhances the efficiency of ball mills and grinding circuits by classifying materials properly.
Working Principle of a Spiral Classifier
A Spiral Classifier works on the principle of gravity separation and hydraulic classification. It separates materials based on their size and density using a continuously rotating spiral screw inside a water-filled inclined trough.
Crushing Process
- The material (slurry) is fed into the inclined tank.
- Water helps suspend fine and lightweight particles, while coarse and heavier particles sink to the bottom.
- The spiral screw continuously rotates, lifting the coarser particles up to the discharge outlet.
- The fine particles remain in suspension and overflow at the top end for further processing.
- The classified material is then sent for grinding or further beneficiation in mineral processing
🔹 Types of Cone Crushers:
High Weir Spiral Classifier – Ideal for coarse particle classification, with a higher overflow level.
Submerged Spiral Classifier – Used for fine material classification, fully submerged in water for better separation.
